Olympiakwartier

In Almere Poort a new centre will be realised for living and working in high density. Within the urban plan of MVRDV a series of apartment buildings is designed that discusses the wish to spacious houses with large outside spaces for starters.

All houses have a living floor with an upstairs extension. A separate space with sufficient privacy located next to the void of a double high living room, oriented towards a double loggia. The space for a starting home office, study or guesthouse. The double high set-up guarantees also sunlight deep into the heart of the house.

The twice high outside space forms suspended garden with enough space for a dining table and the cultivation of a tree. Dinning under the deliciously smelling blossom of a currant tree or in a Mediterranean environment with an olive willow tree. The space forms a natural buffer located to the busy city street on the south with sufficient privacy in supplement to the collective garden of the closed town block.

The building is equipped with a planted roof that collects rainwater for the trees and washing and flushing water. The green facade ensures in combination with a natural ventilation system for enough fresh and cold air indoors.
